چکیده

There is much current interest in robotic vision systems that incorporate multiple cooperating controllable sensors mounted on maneuverable platforms. Part of intelligent gaze control is the efficient allocation of visual (sensing) and attentional (computing) resources while carrying out sensory-motor tasks. Gaze control can also be taken to mean the control system that manages the physical sensors at the lowest level, and it is in that sense it is used here. The claim is that gaze control can facilitate perception by “intelligently” providing basic functionalities. Basic functionalities for managing the extrinsic properties of the sensors are: fast guze shift. a n d gaze holding (which includes stabilizing gaze under egomotion and holding fixation on a moving target). The main functionalities managing intrinsic properties are focus and “auto-ins” level control in cameras a focal-length adjusting “zoom” function is also useful. The concern here is with gaze holding, the facility of tracking a possibly moving object with the eyes from a possibly moving platform. Gaze holding has several aspects that are accomplished in animals by a set of specialized controls that are mentioned here and sometimes referred to by analogy later. The srnooth pursuit system tracks continuous target motion. The vestibu/o-ocular rejlex (VOR) and otolith-ocular reflex systems rotate the

A Neural Model of Coordinated Head and Eye Movement Control

Gaze shifts require the coordinated movement of both the eyes and the head in both animals and humanoid robots. To achieve this the brain and the robot control system needs to be able to perform complex non-linear sensory-motor transformations between many degrees of freedom and resolve the redundancy in such a system. In this article we propose a hierarchical neural network model for performin...

Sensory-Motor Coordination in Gaze Control

In the field of artificial intelligence, there is a considerable interest in the notion of sensory-motor coordination as an explanation for intelligent behaviour. However, there has been little research on sensory-motor coordination in tasks that go beyond low-level behavioural tasks. In this paper we show that sensory-motor coordination can also enhance performance on a high-level task: artifi...

Artificial Gaze Perception experiment of eye gaze in synthetic faces

The aim of this study is to investigate people's sensitivity to directional eye gaze, with the longterm goal of improving the naturalness of animated agents. Previous research within psychology have proven the importance of the gaze in social interactions, and should therefore be vital to implement in virtual agents . In order to test whether we have the appropriate parameters needed to correct...

Evaluating Gaze and Touch Interaction and Two Feedback Techniques on a Large Display in a Shopping Environment

At Philips Research, an Intelligent Shop Window (ISW) was developed. With the ISW, a unique combination is made between a transparent display that is embedded in the window glass, and physical products presented in the shop window. In this paper, touch and gaze interaction with the large display in the ISW are investigated and evaluated. For sensing interfaces it is known that especially with g...
